On The Catalogue

What we index. 17 electronic styles — the families a working DJ recognises from a club flyer or a record bag. Each entry pulls live SoundCloud results filtered by genre tag, ranked by engagement, and overlaid with BeatSeek’s own tempo-and-key analysis where we’ve seen the track before.

How the families group. Genres bucket by canonical name. Anything titled with “house” sits in House (so Tech House and Afro House land alongside the parent); the Techno bucket catches Techno, Melodic Techno, Hard Techno, and Minimal; Trance covers all three trance variants. Outliers — Downtempo, Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Ambient — share a row because they don’t share the dance floor’s 4/4 chassis.

What’s deliberately missing. A subgenre needs enough active producers on SoundCloud to fill a credible Top 10 before it earns its own volume. Most niche “deep” and “dark” variants land naturally inside their parent family rather than as separate entries. Pop, rock, and most non-electronic genres sit outside the catalogue’s editorial focus.
